Every second Saturday of the month, 4-5 students from Marquette ASDA head over to City on a Hill. City on a Hill is a a non-profit organization that works to provide free basic health care needs to those in the Milwaukee area that have found themselves in harder times. The dental stuents give OHI, hand out dental hygiene supplies, answer dental questions, and educate patients on health insurance coverage and local clinics that see these patients. People at the clinic are also offered the opportunity to sign up for expedited screening process appointment and are offered free basic dental care, including fillings, cleanings, and extractions.
Special Olympics Special Smiles
ASDA and SCDA teamed up to help out with Special Olympics Special Smiles. At this event, free screenings and fluoride were given to the athletes. If the athlete needed to seek care, a dentist in their area would reach out to them in the near future. To keep the athlete's teeth healthy when playing, free mouth guards were also offered. Aside from free screenings, mouth guards, and fluoride, OHI was given to the athletes and families.
Milwaukee Police Department National Night Out
Five dental students headed out to Kops Park where Milwaukee Police Department's National Night Out was taking place. Along with the food, carnival games, and tattoos, kids were having a blast learning how to floss and getting free toothbrushes. Parents of the kids also asked a lot of great questions and oral hygiene was taught to people of all ages.Subjects: Advocacy CommunityService
